ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY BRONZE MEDALS 1838

Prior to1864 the RHS Annual Reports do not contain a list of those awarded the Bronze medal or Clasp. The following roll with additional information has been extracted by reference to the appropriate manuscript Case Book by Peter Helmore.

Updated 01/02/2005 - note modified on the provenance of the 7 medals.

(* after Case No indicates more than one Bronze medal for incident.)

The following list of 7 names have been extracted from the 1838 RHS Annual Report Page 50 and are headed The following Cases have occurred at Brighton. The entries are annotated to the effect that Bronze Medals have been presented. Further reference to the 1838 RHS manuscript casebook shows no reference whatsoever to these cases or to the award of Bronze Medals.

The medal awarded to J Quick and dated 1838 was included in the Dix Noonan Webb sale of March 2005 and is as awarded by the RHS. This therefore indicates that the following 7 bronze medals are all RHS awards and not a seperate/different medal awarded by the Brighton Humane Society. LSARS/RHS would be interested in hearing from anyone having knowledge of the remaining 6 medals to confirm this theory.
